In Praise Of ... Filson Socks

WCB - Filson Socks

Like Rodney Dangerfield, socks don't get any respect. They would be almost completely ignored if it weren't for contrary clothes dryers that apparently have the mystical ability to transport them to Saturn's rings. (It is a little known fact that said rings are comprised largely of lost airline luggage and single socks.)

Anyone who spends much time slogging about in the great outdoors should give appropriate attention to their socks. A good pair of socks will help to keep your feet warm, dry and comfortable. Happy feet make for a happy hiker. Disgruntled feet will put you out of action as surely as a sprained ankle.

My favorite boot sock is the Filson all wool over-the-calf variety. They afford laudable comfort and protection and the extra length helps to eliminate chafing from boot tops. In addition, wool has the commendable property of retaining warmth even when wet. That can come in handy when one encounters a sinkhole deeper than the height of one's boots.

My skin is very sensitive and many wool fabrics are very uncomfortable to me even if I have a layer of a different fabric between my skin and the wool. Happily the Filsons do not bother me in the least and I heartily recommend them.

(I have no affiliation with Filson and have received no compensation whatsoever for this piece. The opinions expressed are solely mine.)
